How to Place a Bid (11)
How do I start bidding?
Prior to placing your first bid you’ll need to become a GreenSalvage member. After you complete your registration and pay a refundable security deposit of $400, your membership will be activated immediately, allowing you to start bidding and winning!

Can I buy a vehicle without bidding?
A Buy It Now option is available for some listings, allowing you to forgo the bidding process and purchase an item immediately at the designated Buy It Now price.

If this option is available for your listing, a Buy It Now button will appear on the auction page. Standard auction fees apply and will be added to the Buy It Now price.

Our Vehicle Finder tool enables you to search for listings that offer the Buy It Now option.
When can I start bidding?
After you complete your registration and pay your security deposit your membership will be activated. You will receive an email with your member login and the password, allowing you to start placing bids immediately. Click here to register.
How much time do I have to bid?
All auctions begin with Preliminary Bidding, and end with a Virtual Sale. Preliminary Bidding begins after a vehicle has been assigned a sale date. Preliminary Bidding lasts 24 hours a day and ends one hour before the Virtual Sale begins. The Virtual Sale is a live auction with real-time bidding and generally lasts only a few minutes.
Can I cancel my bid?
You cannot retract, cancel, or lower your bid once it has been submitted. You are obligated to purchase the vehicle if you are the highest bidder at the time the auction ends, and if you fail to do so you will risk forfeiting your security deposit. Before submitting a bid always verify that the lot number of the auction and the amount of your bid are correct.
What’s my Bidding Limit?
Your membership has a Bidding Limit which represents the maximum amount of money that you can bid at one time, and limits how many vehicles you can bid on simultaneously. The size of your security deposit determines your Bidding Limit.

The dollar amount of your security deposit represents 10% of the total amount you can bid at one time. The minimum required security deposit of $400 enables you bid up to $4,000, and allows you to bid on only one vehicle at a time. You can bid on multiple vehicles simultaneously by simply paying an additional $400 (minimum) refundable security deposit for each additional vehicle you want to bid on.

For example:

A $400 deposit will allow you to bid up to $4000 on one vehicle
An $800 deposit will allow you to bid up to $8000 on two vehicles
A $1200 deposit will allow to you bid up to $12000 on three vehicles

You can raise your Bidding Limit at any time by logging into GreenSalvage and visiting MyAccount, and increasing your refundable security deposit.
How can I bid on multiple vehicles?
In order to bid on multiple vehicles simultaneously you must be registered for an Advanced or Professional Membership and place a security deposit. With the minimum security deposit of $400 you can bid on only one vehicle at a time but you can bid on multiple vehicles by simply paying an additional $400 (minimum) refundable security deposit for each additional vehicle you want to bid on.

Increasing you security deposit also increases the total amount of money you can bid. The dollar amount of your security deposit represents 10% of the total amount you can bid at one time.

For example:

A $400 deposit will allow you to bid up to $4000 on one vehicle
An $800 deposit will allow you to bid up to $8000 on two vehicles
A $1200 deposit will allow to you bid up to $12000 on three vehicles
You can increase your refundable security deposit at any time by logging into GreenSalvage and visiting My Account.
How will I know if I won an auction?
If you are the highest bidder when an auction ends an email confirmation will be sent to you. You can also check the status of your bid at any time by logging into your account and clicking the Bid Status tab in My Account.
I’m the highest bidder in an On Approval/On Minimum Bid auction, what happens next?
For auctions with a sale status of On Approval or On Minimum Bid the seller has the option to accept or reject your high bid, or counter with a higher bid. You will receive an email notification of the seller’s response.

If the sale status for the auction is On Minimum Bid the seller has until 6:00 PM PST one business day after the auction ends to make their decision and respond. If the sale status is On Approval the seller has until 6:00 PM PST two business days after the auction ends to make their decision and respond. You are obligated to purchase the vehicle if the seller accepts your high bid within the applicable timeframe.
While you are awaiting the seller’s response you still have the opportunity to raise your bid if you choose to do so. From the auction page you can raise your bid to the next highest increment or accept the seller’s minimum bid.
What should I do to counter the seller’s minimum offer?
From the auction page of the listing you can raise your bid or accept the seller’s minimum bid if you choose to do so.
How can I learn the seller’s minimum bid price?
There is no way to find out the seller’s minimum bid price during the auction. However, if you are the highest bidder when the auction ends the seller’s minimum bid will be revealed to you.
How Auctions Work (8)
What is Preliminary Bidding?
The first stage of an auction is the Preliminary Bidding period, which begins as soon as the auction has been assigned a sale date. During this period you are free to place preliminary bids 24 hours a day until one hour prior to the start of the Live Auction. The starting bid of the Live Auction is established by the highest bid received during the Preliminary Bidding.
What happens in a Virtual Sale?

The Virtual Sale is the final stage of the auction which allows members to submit bids in real-time in a live auction for the vehicle listing. The Virtual Sale typically lasts only a few minutes and will determine the final outcome of the auction.

To participate in a Live Auction, go to the auction page for the vehicle you wish to bid on at the scheduled start time. You can also find a list of all current Virtual Sales, organized by auction yard location, by clicking the ‘Live Auctions’ link at the top of any page. From the auction page click the ‘Sale in Progress’ button to open the Live Auction window. This window will display photos of the vehicle being auctioned and list the current high bid resulting from the Preliminary Bidding stage and the live bids coming in. To place a live bid simply click the button indicating the dollar amount of your choice.

Note:  You are using our service to bid. Therefore, regardless of where you are located, in any Live Auction your live bid will be shown as the "State of Oregon".

What is Bid4U?
During the Preliminary Bidding stage and the Virtual Sale, you can use Copart’s Bid4U (Bid For You) automated bidding system to bid on your behalf and ensure that you remain the highest bidder. Simply designate the maximum amount you are willing to bid and Bid4You will automatically raise your bid to one increment over the current high bid, up to your designated maximum. If no one submits a bid that matches or surpasses your maximum, you may purchase the vehicle below your designated maximum. You will be notified by email if someone submits a bid higher than your maximum, allowing you a chance to raise your maximum bid.
What is a Pure Sale, On Minimum Bid, or On Approval sale status?
The auction type is indicated by the Sale Status which can be found in the Bid Information box. There are three Sale Statuses; Pure Sale, On Approval, and On Minimum Bid.

Pure Sale

No reserve is set by the seller. The vehicle will be sold to the highest bidder at the time when the live auction ends. .

On Approval

When the live auction ends the seller has the option to accept or reject the high bid, or counter with a higher bid. While the high bidder is awaiting the seller’s response they have the opportunity to raise their bid if they so choose. The seller has until 6:00 PM PST two business days after the live auction ends to respond, and the high bidder will receive an email notification of the seller’s response. If the seller accepts the high bid within the applicable timeframe the high bidder is obligated to purchase the vehicle.

On Minimum Bid

The seller has designated a reserve price (minimum acceptable bid) on the vehicle. If the live auction ends and the highest bid does not meet the reserve price, the seller has the option to accept or reject the high bid, or counter with a higher bid. When the auction ends the reserve price will be revealed to the high bidder and they have the opportunity to raise their bid while they await the seller’s response if they so choose. The seller has until 6:00 PM PST one business day after the auction ends to respond, and the high bidder will receive an email notification of the seller’s response. If the seller accepts the high bid within the applicable timeframe the high bidder is obligated to purchase the vehicle.
Why does the listing show an “Expected Sale Date” or “Future Sale”?
Some auctions may indicate an Expected Sale Date or may be identified as a Future Sale. These auctions have not yet been assigned a sale date by Copart and we are unsure when the item will be available for sale.
How do I increase my bidding limit?
Your membership has a Bidding Limit which represents the maximum amount of money that you can bid at one time. If you have received a message saying, "We're sorry, you have exceeded your bidding limit.", you will need to raise your Bidding Limit by increasing the size of your security deposit. The dollar amount of your security deposit represents 10% of the total amount you can bid at one time. For example, a security deposit of $400 will allow you to bid a total of $4,000, a security deposit of $800 will allow you to bid a total of $8,000, and so on. You can raise your Bidding Limit at any time by visiting My Account, and increasing your refundable security deposit.
What happens is a Night Cap Sale?
If a vehicle doesn’t sell during the Live Auction buyers are given another chance to bid on the vehicle in a second live auction called the Night Cap Sale. Before the Night Cap Sale begins there is a second chance bidding period that allows buyers to place preliminary bids.

For listings with the On Minimum Bid sale type, if a bid meets the seller’s designated minimum bid during second chance bidding the vehicle will be sold to the high bidder and will not proceed to the Night Cap Sale. If the seller’s minimum bid is not met during second chance bidding the vehicle will proceed to the Night Cap Sale, and as long as the minimum bid is met the vehicle will be sold to the high bidder.

Night Cap Sales take place each week Monday through Thursday at 6 PM Pacific Time. Four Night Cap Sales are held simultaneously each night, with each sale including vehicles located in these regions: Mountain, Central, Eastern, and Pacific (includes Hawaii and Alaska).
Why did I lose an auction when my bid was the same as the winning bid?
This can occur if you place a bid during the Preliminary Bidding stage and an identical bid is submitted by another bidder during the Live Auction. In this situation it is Copart’s policy to resolve the tie by awarding the sale to the person who submitted their bid during the Live Auction. Copart’s Bid4U system offers a feature called Bid Increment that can help you avoid a tie. With this feature if a bidder submits a bid that is equal to your preliminary bid, Bid4U will automatically raise your bid by one increment over your maximum bid to break the tie. If someone submits a bid higher than your maximum bid an email notification will be sent to you, allowing you an opportunity to raise your maximum.

Security Deposit (7)
Why is a security deposit required?
Providing a security deposit is common practice when participating in a vehicle auction. Your refundable security deposit will act as a guarantee for your bid. All bids are final and if you are the high bidder at the time the auction ends you are obligated to purchase the vehicle. Your deposit will be forfeited if you do not follow through with the purchase after winning an auction. The size of your security deposit also determines your Bidding Limit. The dollar amount of your security deposit represents 10% of the total amount you can bid at one time.

If you do not win an auction and do not wish to make any further bids, you can request a refund at any time and GreenSalvage will return the full amount of your security deposit to you.
Can my deposit apply toward the vehicle payment or shipping costs?
If you win an auction your security deposit will be held until the vehicle is paid for and picked up from the auction location. The deposit will not apply toward your payment for the vehicle or shipping costs. After the vehicle sale price, applicable fees, and shipping costs are paid in full and the vehicle has been picked up from the auction site you can request a refund of the security deposit.
How do I pay my security deposit?
Credit card, debit card, or bank wire transfer are all acceptable methods of payment for your security deposit. Please be aware that payments from bank wire transfers do take longer to process and you will be unable to start bidding until the payment is received.
How do I increase my security deposit?
To increase your refundable security deposit simply go to the My Account page, click on ‘Bidding Limit’ and make a payment to add additional funds to your deposit. Your new Bidding Limit will go into effect as soon as your payment is received. Credit card, debit card, or bank wire transfer are all acceptable methods of payment for your security deposit. Please be aware that payments from bank wire transfers do take longer to process and you will be unable to start bidding until the payment is received.
Is my security deposit refundable?
Yes, if you have not won an auction, you have no active bids and you do not wish to make any further bids you can request a refund at any time. Simply visit the My Account page and request your refund and GreenSalvage will return the full amount of your security deposit to your original form of payment.

If you have won an auction, your security deposit will be held until the vehicle is paid for and picked up from the auction location. After the vehicle sale price, applicable fees, and any shipping costs are paid in full and the vehicle has been picked up from the auction site you can request a refund of the security deposit.

If you would like to keep your account active so you can continue to bid on future auctions a minimum security deposit of $400 must be kept in your Bidder Account at all times.
I got an email saying my refund was processed but I have not received it yet.
If you received an email confirmation, this means your refund has been processed successfully. However, the refund won’t create a credit or deposit on your credit card or bank statement. This is because GreenSalvage did not take the money from your account when you initially provided your deposit, we only applied an authorization hold for that amount to your credit card or bank account. This is considered a pending transaction and did not remove the money from your account.

When we issue a refund we simply void the authorization hold so that your credit card or bank will remove the pending transaction and release the available funds. This can be verified by looking at your statement, or by contacting your credit card company or bank to confirm the pending transaction has been cleared from your account.
Why did I receive an email saying my security deposit has expired?
At the time that you initially provided your deposit we applied an authorization hold to your credit card or bank account for the amount of your deposit. This is considered a pending transaction and did not actually remove the money from your account. An authorization hold can only be in effect for only 30 days and after that time your credit card company or bank removes the pending transaction from your account. This releases the available funds to you and voids your security deposit with GreenSalvage. Depending on your credit card company or bank, the pending transaction may be cleared from your account immediately after the hold has expired or it could take one billing cycle.
Paying for Vehicles (9)
What fees must I pay in addition to the vehicle price?

In addition to the final bid price or buy-it-now price you are responsible to pay the standard fees associated with the transaction. These fees include the applicable auction fees from Copart which are based on the dollar amount of the final vehicle price, GreenSalvage’s $250 transaction fee, and a $80 documentation processing fee.

Late Fee: Vehicle payment is due by 5 PM Pacific Time the next business day after the auction ends. If the payment is not received by then a daily late fee of $50 will be charged for each day the account remains past due until the payment is received.

Storage Fee:
You will receive 7 days of free vehicle storage after you’ve won your auction. If the vehicle is not picked up from the auction location within that time a daily storage fee of $20 will be charged for each day the vehicle is left at the auction location until it is picked up.  All Special sales, including Buy it Now and Make an Offer, are given 3 calendar days of free vehicle storage at the auction facility, including the date of sale.  After your free storage has expired, you will be charged a storage fee of $20 per day for each day that the lot remains at the auction facility.

How can I pay for the vehicle I win at auction?
The payment for your vehicle must be made with a bank wire transfer. You will receive an email with an invoice for the vehicle and instructions for the wire transfer. Wire transfer is the only acceptable method for vehicle payment. We cannot accept PayPal, credit card, cashier’s checks, account to account bank transfers, or vehicle trade-ins.
When is my payment due after I win a vehicle auction?
For domestic purchases made within the United States the payment for the vehicle is due by 5 PM PST the next business day after the auction ends. For auctions that end on a Friday the payment is due by 5 PM PST the following Monday.

For international purchases the payment for the vehicle is due by 5 PM PST on the second business day after the auction ends. For auctions that end on a Friday the payment is due by 5 PM PST the following Tuesday.

If the payment is not received by 5 PM PST on the due date a daily late fee of $50 will be charged for each day the account remains past due until the payment is received.
What are the payment options for international customers?
For international purchases the payment for the vehicle must be made with a bank wire transfer. For international purchases the payment for the vehicle is due by 5 PM PST on the second business day after the auction ends. For auctions that end on a Friday the payment is due by 5 PM PST the following Tuesday.

It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure that the payment is received by GreenSalvage on time in order to avoid late fees. If there is a risk that more than two business days will be required for the funds to move from your bank to a bank in the US, many international buyers choose to send a wire transfer to GreenSalvage prior to completing their purchase so the funds are in place in advance. You can wire the approximate amount of the expected vehicle price and if needed you can elect to apply part of your security deposit (if paid via bank wire transfer) toward the vehicle payment and cover any deficit.
How do I send money with a bank wire transfer?
After the auction ends and you are the winner you will receive an email with an invoice for the vehicle and instructions to send a bank wire transfer payment. A bank wire transfer is a safe and reliable way for money to be sent electronically by your bank. In the instructions we will provide you with all of the information you will need to give your bank including our bank’s name and address, ABA routing number, account number, and SWIFT code.

It may be necessary to go to your bank in person to initiate the wire transfer, as they may need to verify your identity if it is your first time sending a wire transfer through the bank. To process the wire transfer the bank teller may ask you to provide the following:
  • Your driver’s license, passport, or other government issued identification
  • The name of the bank that is receiving the funds - This appears on the vehicle invoice
  • The bank account number that is receiving the funds - This appears on the vehicle invoice
  • ABA routing number of the bank that is receiving the funds - This appears on the vehicle invoice
  • SWIFT code of the bank that is receiving the funds - This appears on the vehicle invoice

International Wire Transfer Fees: Keep in mind when wiring money internationally that in addition to the wire transfer fee charged by your bank there can be subsequent processing fees charged by intermediary banks that are involved with moving the funds to the United States. These fees can be greater than $20 and the fees are taken from your wire transfer funds, thus reducing the amount received by GreenSalvage. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure that the payment is received in full so please increase the amount of your wire transfer to offset the deductions from the intermediary bank processing fees.

So that we can confirm your payment is received, please email a receipt of the wire transfer provided by the bank that shows a record of the completed transaction.
How can I check the status of my payment?
The status of your vehicle purchase will be updated on your My Account page at the GreenSalvage website. You will also receive an email notification from GreenSalvage when your payment is received.
If I don’t win a vehicle auction, do I have to pay anything?
If you bid on a vehicle but do not win the auction you pay nothing for participating in that auction. You're free to bid on other auctions or request a refund of your security deposit. Membership fees are not refundable.
Who do I pay when I win a vehicle?
When you bid on and win a vehicle through GreenSalvage, you're purchasing the vehicle from GreenSalvage, not Copart. You will receive an email with an invoice for the vehicle and instructions to pay GreenSalvage with a bank wire transfer.
If I win the vehicle auction, do I pay my maximum bid amount?
It is possible that bidding during the auction will not reach your maximum bid. In this case you are not required to pay your maximum bid; you only pay the amount of the high bid at the time the auction ended. If you establish a maximum bid of $3,400 for example, if the bidding never reaches that amount and you win with a high bid of $2,200 you pay only $2,200 for the vehicle. In addition to the vehicle price you are also responsible for any applicable auction fees.
Vehicle Information and Titles (7)
Do you have more information on this vehicle?
We do not have additional details about the vehicle beyond what is included in the Lot Details section of the vehicle’s auction page, which contains all of the information we have about the condition of the vehicle. However, registered GreenSalvage members can inspect vehicles in person at the auction yard where it is located. If you do not live in the area of the auction yard or if you prefer to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle for you, GreenSalvage offers professional vehicle inspections for your convenience from a 3rd party provider.
How can I inspect the vehicle in person?
GreenSalvage members can visit Copart auction yards within the US to inspect vehicles in person. The auction location for each vehicle is indicated on the vehicle auction page where you can view the address and hours of the specific auction location. There is a $25 fee charged by Copart for each bidder and each guest visiting the auction yard.

When you arrive at the Copart auction yard you will need to check in at the Bidding Kiosk. This process will require your Bidder Number and your GreenSalvage password. Your Bidder Number was sent to you in an email confirmation when you first registered for your membership. If you cannot locate your Bidder Number feel free to contact GreenSalvage support and we can provide it to you.

Instructions for Self Check-In
  • From the Main Menu of the kiosk select Option 4: Reseller (Broker) Bidder Check-In.
  • Sign in with your Bidder Number and your GreenSalvage password.
  • Enter the number of guests accompanying you into the auction yard. This number does not include the bidder completing check-in. Copart charges $25 for the bidder and $25 for each guest.
  • When your Check-In is complete a message will appear indicating your Check-In was successful.
  • Go to the counter to pay the fees for the visit and sign the Check-In form and you’re done!

You are allowed three check-in attempts and if the third attempt is not successful you must start over. Contact GreenSalvage support or talk to an auction yard employee if you continue to have problems checking in.
What does Run & Drive mean?
It means that at the time the vehicle arrived at Copart's facility, Copart verified that the vehicle (i) started, (ii) could be put into gear, and (iii) was capable of moving forward under its own power. There is no guarantee, representation, or warranty that the vehicle is in roadworthy condition or can be driven lawfully upon the highways of any state. There is no guarantee, representation, or warranty that the vehicle will (i) start, (ii) drive, or (iii) move forward under its own power at the time the vehicle is picked up at Copart's facility. It is the buyer's sole responsibility to ascertain, confirm, research, inspect, and/or investigate the vehicle prior to bidding on it. Once the vehicle is removed from Coparts premises, the buyer accepts the vehicle "as is".
What does an odometer reading of Not Actual mean?
Not Actual means that the odometer reading is not accurate or could not be ascertained. This may be because the odometer has been repaired and replaced or the because the vehicle was stolen and recovered and there wasn't a way to verify the odometer as accurate. There also may be some other reason that is not immediately apparent. For clarification, you can visit the Copart facility where it is currently located to inspect it in person or contact GreenSalvage prior to bidding so that we may assist you with facilitating a vehicle inspection.
I lost a bid, can you tell me what the vehicle ultimately sold for?
We are unable to provide the final bid price for a completed auction because we do not keep records of this information. The sale price is known only to the bidder who wins the auction and the seller.
How quickly will I receive the title?

Once you have paid for the vehicle Copart will send the title to GreenSalvage and we will reassign it in your name and mail out to you via FedEx. You should expect to receive your ownership documents within 2-5 weeks after the end of the auction.

Before your title can be sent to you any outstanding invoices will need to be paid in full. It is important that you have signed the Bill of Sale for any auctions you have won, and that you have provided us with a copy of your driver’s license, passport, or other government issued identification to avoid a delay in processing your title reassignment.

In some cases Copart can take up to 30 days to mail ownership documents to our office. If you have not received an email with the tracking information after 30 days from the end of the auction, please contact our office and we will be able to assist you.

Do you only sell vehicles with salvage titles?
We have thousands of vehicles available with clean titles. If you would like to browse vehicles with clean titles, our Vehicle Finder enables you to filter your search to display only clean title vehicles.
